Academy Survival: Week 3

Well, we survived week three. Barely, but we survived. This is the week that I was so looking forward to Kender having his preschool summer camp for two hours every day, but the day before he was supposed to go he came down with a nasty cold and we had to give up his spot. Rhett and I soon got colds as well, so this week we stayed home and watched way too much Team UmiZoomi.

Monday through Wednesday actually went surprisingly well! I was able to function on less sleep, but then the boys surprised me and slept through the night almost every night. That was such a blessing! Thursday night was rough though. Rhett had a fever and kept waking up screaming, and eventually woke up Kender. Kender is extra chatty when he doesn’t want to sleep, so between the two of them, I got all of 2.5 hours of solid sleep. Needless to say, I was a little cranky the next day.

I made the mistake of calling a consulting nurse to ask what she thought about Rhett because I was worried he might be getting an ear infection. It seems like every time I call them for advice, they convince me I’m dying and tell me to go to urgent care or the ER. Yesterday it was urgent care, but we waited for two hours so it might as well have been the ER. They treat the sickest people first, and apparently there are tons of really sick people on Friday afternoons. When we finally saw a doctor, she said Rhett was perfectly healthy and he just had a summer cold, so I felt silly for bringing him in, and irritated that I waited two hours for them to tell me it was nothing.

It is so important to look for the good in every situation, even when it’s hard to find.

Obviously, yesterday was not an awesome day for me, but here’s what made me happy:

– Ryan took over and let me take a nap as soon as he got home.

– Seeing Ryan’s dreamy face after a long week.

– Kender somehow making me smile even though I was super pissed at him for being defiant.

– Rhett being a giggly, happy baby even though he wasn’t feeling good.

– And last but not least, good health care. It can be super frustrating on days like Friday, but I’m glad we have it.

It is so important to look for the good in every situation, even when it’s hard to find.

It can change your whole attitude, which can change your whole day, which can change your whole week, etc. Life is better when we focus on the good instead of the bad. It’s not easy sometimes, but it’s always worth it.
