Ready for Kindergarten

My boy is ready to start our Kindergarten curriculum! All he really needed was a brief refresher of his letter sounds, not another year of preschool. I think I'll still use our preschool *Daily Learning Notebook though, because it helps him learn his days of the week, months, counting, telling time, learn about the weather, and practise writing. All good stuff!

*I printed out my own updated calendars to use with this notebook

Practicing writing his name. We even threw in some cursive!

The light bulb moment hit me this morning. He has a game on our tablet called Gappy Learns Reading by Spinlight (great app!) and he really wanted me to help him play the hardest level, where it asks you to spell out three letter words. I tried to get him to start from the beginning level, but he said it was too easy and he wanted me to help him with the hard ones. This didn't make sense to me (I figured if he was ready for it he wouldn't need assistance), but then I realized that all I had to do was help him sound out the words and he was able to spell them! That also means he's ready to learn how to READ! At FOUR YEARS OLD. My mind is blown. I can't believe my boy is going to be a reader soon!

I'm so grateful that I get to teach him such important life skills. I really thought I didn't have what it takes to homeschool, but it just makes my heart full. It's more rewarding than I ever imagined <3

Playing ABCmouse

Important side note - I really need to figure out if there is a better way for lefties to hold their pencils, or if it's easier for them to start writing from the bottom up rather than the top down. He's the only lefty in our family. If anyone has any suggestions lay em' on me!
