Adventures With Poop

Today on the way to the Y for Kender's rock climbing class, Rhett started grunting in his car seat. I asked him what was up, and he told me he was making a big poop in his diaper... My first thought was, "Oh great. This should be fun... Hopefully it's just gas." But deep down I knew it wasn't just gas....

When we got out of the car, I checked his diaper and sure enough, he had poop all the way up his back. We rushed inside and I tried to get into a family changing room with a shower, but the swim area was packed so we had to use the changing table in the women's room. That changing table is in the worst possible location. It's the first thing you see when you walk in the restroom. So literally, women would walk in and the first thing they would see was Rhett's naked butt and me scrubbing diarrhea off of him. It was embarrassing to say the least.

A really nice woman in the bathroom empathised with me. She told me she had been there, and it was the worst when that happened. She was right! It was not fun. But her taking the time to show she cared made me feel a lot better. Rhett's shirt was covered in poo, so I threw it in the garbage. Luckily his pants were salvageable.

Riding in their pretend car 😆
I dropped Kender off at rock climbing and took Rhett over to child watch to see if they had any shirts I could buy and if they'd even take him in his shirtless condition. Fortunately, they were more prepared than I was and had a spare shirt I could borrow. Rhett was furious that I had the audacity to not only change his diaper in a public restroom, but throw away his shirt and make him wear a strange and unfamiliar one, so he screamed and fought me as I tried to dress him. By the time I got him dressed and in child watch (with me - he refused to go alone because mommy not only traumatized him, but forgot his binky and blanket as well), there was only 20 minutes left in Kender's lesson. So I checked Rhett out and we sat on the bench and watched Kender climb, which actually ended up being pretty fun.

Rhett being a huge mommas boy while I was getting ready for church the other day. My hair was only half done but fortunately you can only see one side of it in this picture. But it was a super precious moment ❤
Rhett got so excited for his brother and cheered for him as he worked his way to the top of the wall. And I'm always filled with pride when  I watch that brave kid climb the wall. Despite everything, it made my heart melt. This life is messy and chaotic and full of poop and other strange bodily substances, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
