An Introduction to All Things Beautiful & Bright

Hi! I’m April. I was born and raised in Texas. I met my husband Ryan while we were both at school in Idaho. We now reside in Washington state, where Ryan works as a police officer (he is also lovingly known as Deputy Dreamy. He looks good in a uniform 😁). We have been blessed with two little boys, ages 6 and 3, and are expecting another baby boy in October. While Ryan is off protecting our community, I hold down the fort and homeschool our boys. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I incorporate Christian values into our homeschool.

I’ve always enjoyed blogging, and have kept a blog to document our family life since Ryan and I got married back in 2010. I’ve found my passion in educating our kids at home, so I decided I wanted to start writing about our homeschooling journey. These years are fleeting, and I want to be able to sit on my couch with my laptop and cry (tears of gratitude) as I look back on these precious times. Before I know it my boys will be off at college, getting jobs, getting married, and having babies of their own!

I always have a hard time coming up with cool names, and this portion of my blog is no exception. After some brainstorming I eventually I settled on “All Things Beautiful and Bright,” which was obviously inspired by the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” Even as I type this, I realize that may get a bit confusing lol. But it was the best I could do with my pregnant brain, and it really fits what I want to focus on here. The first verse of the song goes:

Each little flow’r that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Basically the whole song gives thanks to God for everything He has given us in this beautiful world. God has blessed me with so much, and He has helped guide me so much throughout my life. I always want to put Him first, to strengthen my testimony of Christ, and to always express my gratitude for my Savior. My goal is to follow the guidance of the spirit as I teach my boys about all things beautiful and bright.

(See what I did there? 😁)
