Goals for 2019 (For Family and Homeschool)

I love the New Year because I get really pumped about making new goals. This year especially - I feel like my organization and planning skills have been going downhill since I was pregnant with Mason. But behold, I am no longer pregnant and uncomfortable! I no longer have an unpredictable newborn! I now have a very adorable and smiley 2.5 month old.

Now that we are in our new house, we have a lot of goals that involve homemaking (garden, orchard, aquaponics, fence, chickens, etc.). Maybe I'll write about those another time. This post is about our goals for our family and homeschool in 2019! I'll keep it simple and put it in bullet points:

Family Goals for 2019

  • No TV or video games before 3pm on weekdays
  • Family Night every Monday

Saturday Chores

Kender

  • Scoop litter boxes
  • Clean bathroom
  • Clean bedroom

Rhett

  • Put away toys in living room
  • Put away toys in bedroom

Mom

  • Sweep & Mop
  • Vacuum
  • Clean bathroom
  • Dust
  • Clean couches
TV and I have a love/hate relationship. I'm not gonna lie, I love a good Netflix binge. And I love that I can sit my kids down for a movie when I need some alone time. However, it's easy to have too much TV going on. I hate feeling unproductive and lazy. That's a bad habit I'm ready to break. My first goal (no TV or video games until after 3pm) is ambitious for us, but I know we can do it. There were a couple months early in my pregnancy where we did a TV detox for a couple of days and then limited it to 1-2 hours a day. The change in all of our moods was amazing, and I'm ready to get back to that!

Homeschool Goals for 2019

Together:

  • Scripture Study (New Testament)
  • History lesson
  • Read aloud for 30 min
  • Handwriting

For Rhett:

  • Level K Primer (handwriting, language arts, math, art)
  • Starfall/Khan Academy Kids to reinforce skills

For Kender:

  • Language Arts Lesson
  • Phonics, Sight Words, Spelling, Reading
  • Math
For history, handwriting, language arts, and math we will be using The Good & The Beautiful curricula again. You can read this post to see what things have been working well for us. In life (and homeschool) things don't always go as planned. I know I need to be flexible and make changes to these goals as needed (and not be mad at myself if that needs to happen).

I've got some personal goals too. Pretty typical New Years Resolution stuff:

Personal Goals for 2019

  • Stop drinking sodas
  • Drink more water
  • Take better care of teeth
  • Eat healthier
  • Exercise
  • Daily prayer & scripture study

In other news:

I made a somewhat healthy dinner last night! It was beef pasta & corn a la Hamburger Helper, complete with broccoli, orange slices, and cheese for the boys (because they eat nothing I cook). I was pretty proud of my creation. I haven't cooked a real meal in weeks since we've all been sick. It felt good to make something, even if it was just Hamburger Helper.

I love how much he loves me ❤
