What We've Been Up To This January

You may or may not have noticed that honeycrisphomestead.net now redirects to aprilshappyplace.com. All the posts are here now, so no need to worry about that. I just can’t seem to make up my mind about how I want to do this blogging thing. I seem to enjoy it most when it’s laid back, less structured, and family focused, so that’s what I’m going with! I dumped Facebook and Instagram too, so if you want updates, you’ll just have to come here or sign up for the email updates.

I still plan on posting lots of homestead updates. For example:

The Hoop House is No More.

We had an extra windy season, combined with heavy rain, and it was just too much for the pvc. It snapped, and half the hoop house came crashing down! We had the rabbits in there at the time, but thankfully they weren’t bothered by it. Ryan moved them into our wood shed, and we all like that setup much better anyway.

Since there’s no more hoop house, I stacked up some cement blocks to make a few raised beds. I’m curious to see how they do! The rest of the garden will just be traditional rows.
Transplanted my turnips and swiss chard as an experiment. The perimeter holes are filled with onions and garlic.

Family CrossFit Workout

Ryan has been doing CrossFit for the past few months, and he invited Kender to start doing his workouts with him. The other day we went to the local middle school as a family to enjoy the sunshine while they did their workout. I’m more of a yoga gal, so I had fun taking pictures.

Inchworm push ups

Mason’s version of inchworm push ups

Rhett is more of a balance on the bleachers kind of guy.

We Tried Water Beads!

They’re really cool, but Mason enjoys throwing them and dumping them… Which I do not enjoy, because they’re slippery and hard for my big fingers to pick up. So after a few days, I threw out this batch when they weren’t looking. I plan on sticking them in the pool this summer, so that should make up for it.

Some New Art

A few months ago I bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil for drawing. After using it for a few weeks, I decided I prefer Android so I exchanged it for a Galaxy Tab S7. I do miss the Procreate app, but Infinite Painter has all the same tools (just a bit more of a learning curve) so I feel like it was a good move for me. Anywho, I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with more digital art!

Rhett’s been working on his art too. Here’s a portrait he drew of Mason yelling for Dad. It’s pretty accurate.

Last but not least, a snuggle picture. I love catching these sweet little moments:
